Galveston is the most dog-friendly beach city on the Texas Gulf: leashed dogs are welcome on most of the island's public beaches year-round, with no seasonal shutout. Add a walkable historic Strand district full of patio dining and it makes an easy weekend from Houston.
Leash rules and seasonal restrictions
Leashed dogs are permitted on most Galveston public beaches year-round. Dogs are not allowed at Galveston Island State Park beach areas in some sections and are restricted on the Seawall sidewalk during certain events. Leash laws are enforced.
