Destin's sugar-white sand is the draw, but Florida's Gulf beaches are among the strictest in the country about dogs. Most of the public beach in Destin proper is closed to pets, and the workaround is knowing the designated dog-friendly spots in and around Okaloosa and Walton counties rather than assuming any stretch of sand will do.
